Gor Mahia tackle Tusker with eyes on title race
- Gor Mahia opened up a four-point gap at the top thanks to the walk over following Mount Kenya United not showing up for Thursday’s match
The table toppers’ battle will intensify this weekend as round 25 matches of the SportPesa Premier League are played across different venues in the country.
Gor Mahia, who opened up a four-point gap at the top thanks to the walk over following Mount Kenya United not showing up for Thursday’s match, will be up against former champions Tusker in Machakos.
Second-placed Sofapaka will welcome Mathare United at the same grounds as they strive to keep pace with the reigning champions who are chasing an unprecedented 18th title.
Bandari, who are third on 45 points, will be looking to beat in-form AFC Leopards to avoid falling too far behind in the leadership race.
Most of the focus will however be on the match pitting Tusker against reigning champions Gor Mahia on Saturday in Machakos.
The first leg match between the two teams ended 1-0 in favour of the Green Army, and the brewers will be looking to revenge and keep their five-match unbeaten run going.
“This is not the first time we are playing them. We have met so many times in the past and tomorrow (Saturday) will be no different. The important thing is to prepare adequately and we have done so. I just hope officiating will be okay,” Tusker coach Robert Matano said.
Timothy Otieno will have a point to prove as he faces his former employers in the match while partnering Boniface Muchiri upfront.
Ugandan midfielder Hashim Sempala, who crossed from Tusker to Gor Mahia last month, might start in midfield for the defending champions.
“They are former champions and as you know we have had to play very many matches in the last few weeks so there is an issue with fatigue but we shall try to go for a win,” said Gor coach Hassan Oktay.
